Fiesta Máxima featuring Daddy Yankee & Gente De Zona
About the Event
Puerto Rican sensation Daddy Yankee is responsible for the unique musical fusion of hip hop and reggae known as reggaetón. Considered to be one of the top reggaetón artists internationally, Daddy Yankee started his musical career in the early 90’s releasing his first solo studio project, No Mercy, in 1995. In 1997 and 2001 he released two compilation albums, El Cartel and El Cartel Volume 2, which became very successful in his home country of Puerto Rico. Daddy Yankee reached mainstream success with his 2004 breakthrough album Barrio Fino featuring the international hit “Gasolina”. Barrio Fino is recognized as the definitive reggaetón album of its time and is the first reggaetón album to reach #1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, a position it held for roughly a year. The album also won the “Reggaeton Album of the Year” award at the 2005 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The following year Daddy Yankee was named one of the 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine.
In an effort to broaden the scope of reggaetón’s popularity, he has worked with other artists such as Akon, will.i.am, and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, amongst others. He has also extended his reach into the film industry as both an actor and producer.
Joining Daddy Yankee for this year’s Fiesta Máxima is Gente De Zona, a Cuban reggaetón duo comprised of Anthony Delgado and Randy Malcom Martinez. Founded by Anthony Delgado in 2000, the group recorded four hit albums before finding international success from their musical feature on Enrique Iglesias’ hit single “Bailando” in 2014. The track was awarded three Latin Grammy Awards and spent forty-two weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Their 2016 single “La Gozadera”, which featured Marc Anthony as a guest, peaked at #2 on various charts and won the duo two trophies at the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards for “Tropical Song of the Year” and “Tropical Song Artist/Duo/Group of the Year”. Shortly after, the duo released their first charting album, Visualizate, which reached #1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.
